November at Rock House Wood

I had another couple of visits to the wood in November. I wanted to try the Hermagis 305mm brass lens wide open hence the ‘swirl’ towards the back and front of the print. It’s supposedly a ‘look’ that photographers want from these old lenses but I’m not sure I’m keen for my own work. Still, I was pleased with the print. What attracted me to this particular scene was the old wall which has been a boundary at some point but has been left to fall down over the years – probably when the area was taken over by the Forestry Commission. New enlarger and first print!

So, the inevitable happened. After much discussion on Photrio and many great suggestions from mates about using LED panels etc. I decided to drive to Scotland last Tuesday to collect the LPL 7451 enlarger. (Thanks Alex!) I brought the enlarger back and wired it up that afternoon and did my first printing session last night. I’m pleased with it – especially now I have found a major (taller!) Paterson focus finder in my loft. One great feature of the Beseler was the flexible knob/ handles which hung down – not so with the LPL and I ended up doing the funky gibbon impression.
